providing a safe, clean burning candle. you may notice variations such as frosting, cracking or sweating in the wax. This is normal for natural wax and does not affect the performance of the candle. Candles made from natural wax react to changes in temperature. We recommend to keep your candle and wax products away from direct sunlight and avoid exposure to extreme fluctuations in temperature.
In order for your candle to perform its very best and give off a beautiful aroma, we recommend you follow a few simple candle care tips to get the very best from your candle.
Candles can create a warm and inviting atmosphere in your home, but proper care is essential to ensure they burn safely and effectively. Follow this guide to get the most out of your candles.
1 Choose the Right Surface. Always place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Avoid placing it near flammable materials or on soft surfaces like beds or sofas.
2 Trim the Wick Before each burn, trim the wick to about 5mm. A shorter wick helps control the flame size, prevents soot, prevents excessive flickering and allows for the fragrance to shine through. Use wick trimmers or scissors for a clean cut. there is no need to trim the wick before the first burn!
3 Burn Time Matters! The first time you burn your candle it’s important to allow your candle to burn all the way to the edge of the jar, so the full surface is melted creating a full melt pool, this prevents the candle tunnelling (where the wax burns down the centre, leaving excess wax around the edges) and ensures an even burn. With our 200g Jar Candles it can take around 3-4 hours and for Votives around 2 hours.
4 Avoid Drafts Keep your candle away from drafts, fans, or open windows. Air currents can cause uneven burning, flickering, and soot production. A calm environment allows for a steady flame and even wax melting and fragrance distribution.
5 Extinguish Properly! When it’s time to extinguish your candle, avoid blowing it out, as this can cause smoke. Instead, use a candle snuffer. This reduces smoke, allowing the candle's fragrance to shine through and linger in the air.
6 Store Candles Correctly Store your candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent discolouration and melting. If you’re storing scented candles, keep them in a sealed container to preserve their fragrance
7 Watch the Wax Level Always keep an eye on the wax levels as you burn. Never burn a candle all the way down to the bottom (generally, stop when there’s about 1cm of wax left). Burning too low or for long periods can cause the glass or holder to heat up and crack or the wick to move.
8 Keep Away from Children and Pets For safety, always keep burning candles out of reach of children and pets. Supervise candles while they are lit, and never leave them unattended.
9 Clean the Candle Holder After your candle has burned out, clean the holder to remove any leftover wax. You can do this by placing the holder in the freezer for a few hours, which will help the wax pop out easily. Wipe any residue with a soft cloth, you can use your jar as a handy storage pot.
DO NOT BURN 200g JARS FOR MORE THAN 4 HOURS AND VOTIVES FOR MORE THAN 2 HOURS AT A TIME
and lastly Repurpose Leftover Wax If you have leftover wax, consider repurposing it! use it as a wax melt for a warmer. By following these tips, you can enjoy your candles safely and enhance their longevity, filling your space with beautiful light and fragrance for many moments to come.
Happy candle burning!
